The Hells of Iron by Grrrod The Hells of Iron by Grrrod
"The Hells of Iron", also known as the fortress Angband, in Beleriand. Taken from the LOTR book "The Silmarillion".

I finished this off a little more with an edit.

Truly beautiful and full of the despair of the fortress in this land.

Man, this is the type of stuff I can only dream of being able to do... :faint:

Out of curiousity, where/how did you get your digital painting skills? Self-taught, school, some of both?

Amazing work! :worship: The colors are so warm and the details are mindblowing! Have you used any textures on the mountain? Btw, the lighting is perfect! One of the best Silmarillion landscapes I've ever seen! :D

Yes I used a base texture on the mountain to get the rock-juice flowing, then painted over the top.

WHoaaa! What an impressive work!

And one get the feel of a more "realistic" form, even when is clear is a fantasy castle of imponderable dimensions!

...and unfortunately incorrect! I'm coming back to this "at some point" to fix the layout, which is apparently all wrong. :-) Or I could just leave it!

Wonderful, except that Angband is underground (excluding the gate) and is beneath the Thangorodrim...it is still scrumptiously beautiful though...

I fail to see your point; sorry ^.^" my point was that it'd fit in there cause it's totally awesome. yours is...?

(sorry, I do realise this comment seems somewhat rude. I have no idea how to fix that right now...it's not meant to be offensive in any way, I'm just asking)

there's a book series called A Song of Ice and Fire, which is awesome. you should read it ; )
and there's an awesome artist called Ted Nasmith, who mainly does Lord of the Rings stuff. but he also did a series of the castles from ASoIaF.

I'm quite with you. In fact, this is something like a missing piece to my own picture of Angband (plus Thangorodrim, haha! :D) that you don't know has been missing until you see it. Nicely done, and I LOVE the sky!
